About Me
I’m Sam Johnson, a Yakima resident, finance professional, and candidate for Yakima County Treasurer.
I’ve spent my career working at the intersection of finance, regulation, and operations—helping financial institutions strengthen internal controls, prevent fraud, and manage resources responsibly. In my current role as a Financial Examiner Supervisor with the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions, I oversee examinations of complex credit unions, lead and mentor teams, and work directly with leadership on risk management, budgeting, and long-term financial planning.
My experience spans institutions ranging from small community organizations to multi-billion-dollar financial institutions. That statewide perspective has given me a clear understanding of best practices—and how to apply them effectively at the local level.
I’m running for Treasurer because Yakima County deserves disciplined, transparent, and accountable financial leadership. I’m committed to protecting taxpayer dollars, improving systems, and ensuring the Treasurer’s Office operates with the highest level of integrity and professionalism.
Commitment to Community
I’ve been actively involved in the Yakima community through local boards, volunteer efforts, and civic engagement, including serving as President of New Leaders Yakima County, Treasurer for the Central Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and currently as President of the Yakima Schools Foundation.
I believe strong communities are built by people who show up, stay informed, and work toward practical solutions—and that’s a commitment I’ve carried both professionally and locally.
